WINNER BIO

Nafisa Omar Elsammani, MBBS, MD (Internal Medicine), MRCP (UK), an Assistant Professor at Al Neelain University and a cardiologist at Al Shaab Teaching Hospital in Khartoum, Sudan. I am also the academic secretary of the Sudan Heart Society and a founding member of the Global Women in Cardiology group, where we aim to encourage female physicians to pursue a career in cardiology.

I have completed my medical degree and postgraduate training in Sudan, and completed the European Society of Cardiology-accredited cardiac MRI level II training fellowship program at Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bangalore, India. I was one of 22 African physicians selected for the first Africa Heart Failure Course, in 2021, organized by Pan-African Cardiac Society (PASCAR) in collaboration with Cardiff University, Wales, to establish a specialized HF service in the continent. That program completed in Nov. 2021. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree (MSc) in Medical Health Professions Education at the Sudan Medical Specialization Board.

I have presented at local and regional conferences, namely the The Pan-African Cardiac Society (PASCAR), the Africa PCR and joint presentation for the Iraqi Council of Cardiology. I have number of publications and I am also a reviewer for the Cardiovascular Journal of Africa.
