The RESIL-Card project is a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare systems across Europe to ensure consistent and equitable care for cardiovascular patients during times of crisis, such as pandemics, war, or natural disasters. Led by the We CARE initiative and funded by a grant from the EU4Health Work Programme, RESIL-Card brings together leading voices in public health and interventional cardiology to create long-term solutions for care continuity.
To enhance the strength and credibility of their initial funding application, We CARE engaged Women As One to serve as an Advisory Board member. Our involvement was sought to ensure gender representation at the strategic level and to amplify the voices of women cardiologists within this crucial public health initiative.
In our role as Advisory Board members, Women As One began by carefully reviewing the design and objectives of the RESIL-Card project. We then provided a formal letter of support to accompany the EU4Health grant submission, reinforcing our endorsement of the initiative’s goals and methodology.
Following the project’s successful funding, Women As One joined ongoing Advisory Board meetings to represent the perspectives of women in cardiology and ensure gender equity remains embedded in the project’s implementation. We continue to serve as a resource by identifying and sourcing women cardiologists and physicians from our global community to contribute to key project milestones, including assessments, data collection, and dissemination activities.
Through this collaboration, Women As One has directly supported We CARE in building visibility for RESIL-Card within the global cardiology community. We amplified project awareness across our communications platforms and drove early engagement through participation in a foundational landscape assessment survey.
In addition, Women As One successfully nominated an Advisory Board member from Ukraine, helping RESIL-Card meet a core requirement of their EU4Health funding. This inclusion ensures that the unique experiences and challenges faced by Ukrainian healthcare providers and cardiovascular patients during crises are reflected in the project’s recommendations.
Over the course of the three-year project, Women As One will remain an active participant on the Advisory Board, advocating for gender-responsive approaches and equitable representation throughout the program’s deliverables.
This partnership reflects Women As One’s continued commitment to elevating women in cardiology and driving systemic change that benefits all patients. By working alongside public health leaders and interventional cardiologists on EU-funded initiatives like RESIL-Card, we help ensure that gender equity is not a separate consideration but a core principle in healthcare system resilience.
Through our involvement in RESIL-Card, we not only strengthen our mission but also empower women cardiologists to play a central role in shaping how cardiovascular care is delivered in crisis settings, today and into the future.
Women As One is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the inclusion, development, and advancement of women physicians in cardiology. By creating opportunities and resources specifically designed to support women in the field, we aim to address long-standing gender disparities and foster a more equitable and representative cardiovascular workforce.
We believe that partnerships with industry organizations are essential to creating meaningful, systemic change. Through collaboration, we can amplify our reach, align on shared goals, and develop innovative initiatives that promote gender equity across all areas of cardiology, from clinical trials and leadership to education and visibility. If your organization is committed to making cardiology a more inclusive and diverse specialty, we would be delighted to explore potential opportunities for collaboration.
